Each year, schools across Grand Erie demonstrate admirable commitment and dedication towards environmental stewardship as they work to gain certification as an EcoSchool, and help make the planet a whole lot better in the process. The recognition through EcoSchools honours these achievements in environmental learning and action as students implement a variety of initiatives within their schools. These efforts include waste-free lunches, implementing recycling programs, energy-conservation initiatives, butterfly gardens, and much more.

"Our EcoSchools have demonstrated a commitment to stewardship in their efforts to promote environmental leadership and taking steps to reduce their ecological impact," said Chris McAnally, Grand Erie's Energy and Sustainability Officer. "We are proud of the students and teachers who worked together to take action and create such a positive change in their communities."

Sixteen Grand Erie schools improved their environmental leadership and operational efficiency, and supported Canada's commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals in 2024.
