n Wednesday, Oct. 25 and Thursday, Oct. 26, Valley Heights Secondary School hosted a disc golf tournament for students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 from Langton, Port Rowan, Courtland and Houghton Public Schools.

Two schools visited per day, alternating between playing badminton in the gym, bingo, Twister, Headbands, ping pong, and other activities in the cafeteria such as craft kits of Leonardo Da Vinci’s model helicopter. Meanwhile, the other school would go outside and play the new nine-hole disc golf course spanning the entire school property.

“It was so much fun, I really enjoyed my day at Valley Heights,” said one elementary school student. “I can’t wait for high school, and I'm definitely going to the Valley!”

It was a great two days with lots of meaningful connections made and, hopefully, a chance for many future Bears to get a bit more familiar with what’s to come as they move on to secondary school.

Events like the disc golf tournament allow intermediate students to explore the next chapter of their education journey. Setting the tone for a positive, friendly and supportive transition to high school contributes to a culture of well-being and belonging as indicated in Grand Erie’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan.
