Grand Erie Schools to Join in the 45th Terry Fox Marathon of Hope

Forty-five years ago, a young man from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, set out on a journey that would unite a country. With a prosthetic leg, an unshakable will, and a dream to end cancer, Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope. Though illness cut his run short, Terry's courage and determination sparked a movement that continues to this day.

In 2025, schools and communities across Canada will promote the 45th anniversary of Terry's Marathon of Hope. The Terry Fox Foundation has launched the "Finish It" campaign, a call to action that reminds us: Terry never stopped believing in his dream—and now it's up to us to carry it across the finish line.

On September 25, Grand Erie schools will once again come together to walk, run, and reflect in Terry's honour. Grand Erie invites everyone to reflect on Terry's legacy, contribute to the cause, and help complete Terry's vision.

"Each September, Grand Erie schools embrace Terry's story—not just as a lesson in history, but as a living example of resilience, determination, and hope," said JoAnna Roberto, Director of Education. "Terry's vision was bigger than himself, and it's inspiring to see students, staff, and families in our communities step forward to carry that vision to the finish."

The Terry Fox Run has become a tradition in Canadian schools, but also much more: an opportunity for young people to understand the power of one individual's courage to change the world, and how collective action can continue that impact.
