Grand Erie is pleased to continue to provide additional tutoring resources for students free of charge until the end of June. School-based tutoring supports are dependent on the availability of educational assistants.  Please contact your school directly.

This is My New School

Focus: Kindergarten

UPDATE: Spaces are currently available.

This Is My New School Is a half day (morning) face-to-face program for students in kindergarten that will expose them to school routines and expectations and allow staff to better understand how to support more complex social, communication and self-regulation skills.
 

Program Information:

  • Delivered by a Teacher and an Educational Assistant or Designated Early Childhood Educator, with support from Board Certified Behaviour Analysts and/or Speech Language Pathologists. Programs are supervised by a Principal or Vice Principal.

  • Will benefit students who require direct support and supervision during transitional times and enhanced opportunities to be exposed to school routines

  • This Is My New School will only run in schools who have volunteer staffing and available space. Caregiver consent must be obtained for a student to participate.

  • Students that are selected to participate will demonstrate a need for additional support in the areas of communication, behaviour management, social skills and social Interactions.

Camp SAIL
(Summer Adventures In Learning)

Focus: Grades Senior Kindergarten to Grade 6

Camp Summer Adventures in Learning (SAIL) returns in 2022, with a virtual or in-person summer camp focused on building skills in literacy and numeracy to help bridge the gap between the end of the school year and the start of a new year. The fun, supportive environment will provide students with a jumpstart on learning.

We would love to have your child join us for Camp SAIL this July!
 

What is Camp SAIL?

  • Grand Erie District School Board is offering a free virtual OR in-person summer camp for three weeks in July (July 4 - July 22).
  • The camp focus will be on further developing students’ numeracy and literacy skills. Grand Erie teachers will provide fun and engaging activities to help students practice and enhance their skills and strategies.
  • Activities and materials to be used during the camp will be delivered to students. These items may be kept by the students upon completion of the program.
     

Who is Camp SAIL for?

  • Students who have just completed Senior Kindergarten to Grade 5.
  • Interested families are asked to complete this FORM survey link as soon as possible.
  • Please complete a FORM link for each child.
  • All are welcome!
     

When is Camp SAIL?

  • The dates for the camp are Monday July 4th until Friday July 22nd.
  • The virtual camp will run from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Monday to Friday.
  • The in-person camp will run from 9 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
  • There is no camp on Saturdays or Sundays.
     

Where is Camp SAIL?

  • Camp Sail will be held virtually or in-person at one of the Grand Erie Schools selected to host.
  • Virtual Camp Sail students will need to have access to a device and the internet for the instructional time that the camp is offered.
     

How much does Camp SAIL cost?

NOTHING! Camp SAIL is free! Please consider having your child join us for this fun, engaging, summer learning opportunity.

Summer School Transition Program

Focus: Grades 1 to 3

UPDATE: Spaces are currently available.

The Summer School Transition Program (SSTP) is a half day (morning) face-to-face skill-building program for students in primary grades (Grades 1-3) to support the development of skills to transition back to school in a positive, structured and confident manner.
 

What is the Summer School Transition Program?

  • Delivered by a Teacher and an Educational Assistant or Designated Early Childhood Educator, with Child and Youth Worker support. Programs are supervised by a Principal or Vice Principal.

  • The SSTP will benefit students who require a return to school in a smaller, structured group on a reduced schedule. 

  • The SSTP will only run in schools who have volunteer staffing and available space. Caregiver consent must be obtained for a student to participate.

  • Students selected to participate will demonstrate a need for support in the areas of; self-regulation, behaviour management, social skills and/or social interactions.

  • August 22 to 31, 2022 (mornings)

Reading Skills Development Through LEXIA

Focus: Grades 2 to 8

UPDATE: Spaces are currently available.

LEXIA Reading is a web-based reading intervention program for students with learning disabilities and other at-risk readers. It establishes a reading entry point based on a placement assessment and guides students through phonics, decoding, and comprehension activities. To use a LEXIA license in the summer, caregivers will need to commit to having their child regularly use the program (minimum 20 minutes per day for most weekdays). Centrally hired volunteer teachers will monitor student progress and meet virtually with individual or small groups of students to deliver a targeted lesson identified by the program or to check in with the student and offer encouragement. These meetings can take up to 30 minutes a week and caregivers need to commit to their child participating in all aspects of the program.
 

Program Information:

  • This opportunity is for students in Grades 2-8.

  • Administrators may nominate students who demonstrate gaps in reading skills and whose families can commit to supporting the minimum of 20 minutes of LEXIA online daily and up to 30 minutes of direct teacher instruction and/or touch-ins delivered through Microsoft TEAMS weekly by a teacher. 

  • Participants must have access to a computer device and reliable internet.

  • This program will only run with a minimum of 20 students across the board and if centrally hired teachers are available.
     

Program Timing:

  • July 11 to August 26, 2022 – (9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. each morning)

Technology Journeys in Math
(Virtual Summer Program)

Focus: Grades 4 to 8

UPDATE: Spaces are currently available.

Technology Journeys in Math is a two-hour (9:30 to 11:30 a.m.) virtual program (through Microsoft TEAMS) which runs for five consecutive days. This program will provide participants the opportunity to increase their independence, confidence, and self-esteem while developing positive attitudes towards math. Students will explore and practice with assistive technology tools that support comprehension, mathematical thinking, and problem solving.  They will build a private math journal website to record strategies, technology tools, and reflections as math learners to reference when back in the classroom.
 

Program Information:

  • Laptop.pngThis program is implemented by a LEARNStyle coach who will reach out to participants by email prior to the start of the camp for introductions and video conferencing tips to ensure a smooth start to the first day.

  • This program is for students in grade 4 – 8 who demonstrate gaps in numeracy and literacy skills and whose caregivers commit to participating.

  • Participants must have access to a computer device and reliable internet.

  • This program will only run with a minimum of 8 students across the board.

Program Timing:

  • August 15 to 19, 2022 – (9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. each morning)

Assistive Technology and Literacy Camp
(Virtual Summer Program)

Focus: Grades 4 to 12

The Assistive Technology and Literacy Camp is a two-hour (9:30 to 11:30 a.m.) virtual program (through Microsoft TEAMS) which runs for five consecutive days. This program will provide participants the opportunity to increase their independence, confidence, self-esteem and self-advocacy skills through the use of technology to enhance literacy skills.
 

Program Information:

  • Laptop.pngThis program is implemented by a LEARNStyle coach who will reach out to participants by email prior to the start of the camp for introductions and video conferencing tips to ensure a smooth start the first day.

  •  This opportunity is for students in Grade 4 – 12 who demonstrate gaps in literacy skills and whose caregivers commit to supporting the participation.

  • The students will be grouped by division (Grade 4-6, Grade 7-8, Grade 9-12)

  • Participants must have access to a computer device and reliable internet.

  • This program will only run with a minimum of 8 students across the board (per division).
     

Program Timing:

  • August 8 to 12, 2022 – (9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. each morning)

Summer Learning Opportunities for Students at Grand Erie Learning Alternatives (GELA)

Focus: Grades 7 to 12

Below are the 2022 Course offerings and registration forms.  Courses officially start Tuesday, July 5th and end Friday, July 29, 2022.   Note:  All in-class courses at Brantford Collegiate are cancelled due to low enrollment.  For those who registered for in-class, students will be called and offered eLearning.

For students currently in Grades 7-12, summer learning opportunities offer a chance to get caught up, get ahead or perhaps explore a new subject.  

Options available are:

  • Registration deadline: June 24, 2022
  • Hours: 8:00 am to 2:15 pm.  Transportation is available by emailing transportation@stsbhn.ca.
     
  • eLearning courses for students in Grades 7 to 12
  • Registration deadline: June 30, 2022.  These courses are independent with no set hours and the orientation opens July 1, 2022 and must be completed by July 4th.

  • As always, only one credit (1.00) can be earned by any student during Summer School.
  • Secondary students: please ensure you consult your guidance counsellor and obtain their signature on the registration form.
  • Elementary students: please ensure you obtain your home school Principal's signature on the registration form and ask the School Secretary to enroll you in PowerSchool.

Summer School Course Information

Course Selection 2022

eLearning Courses, Grades 9 to 12

Students will have a choice of approximately 65 courses available at the time of registration. eLearning courses can run with larger numbers than face-to-face classes, allowing students to take courses they may not have access to during the regular school year.

  • Monday, July 4 to Friday, July 29, 2022.
  • Orientation begins July 1, 2022 and needs to be completed before actual course start of July 4, 2022.

Reach Ahead, Current Grades 7 and 8

Opportunities are offered to Grades 7 and 8 students who wish to acquire a secondary school credit prior to their official enrollment in secondary school.  * Current Grade 7 and 8 students will use the Secondary Credit Registration form below *  Reach Ahead courses:  Business Technology  (BTT1OV), Civics (CHV2OV), Careers (GLC2OV).

  • Classes at Brantford Collegiate have been cancelled.  Those students who already registered will be called by the Summer School Office.
  • Monday, July 4 to Friday, July 29, 2022 - eLearning courses - orientation begins July 1st and must be completed by the actual course start of July 4th.

Q STAR Program
(Virtual Summer Program)

Focus: Grades 9 to 12

UPDATE: Spaces are currently available.

The Q Star Program (Question Type, Strategies, Tools, Apply, Read & Review) is a two-hour (9:30 to 11:30 a.m.) virtual collaborative program (through Microsoft TEAMS) which runs for five consecutive days. This program will equip students with concrete strategies and technology tools that will set them up for success heading into the new school year.  Students will apply writing comprehension and time management strategies utilizing assistive technology to academic tasks such as answering a variety of question types that can be encountered on an assessment.  For each type of question, strategies for reading, interpreting, and responding will be provided which incorporate the appropriate assistive technologies. 
 

Program Information:

  • Laptop.pngThis program is delivered by a LEARNStyle coach who will reach out to participants by email prior to the start of the camp for introductions and video conferencing tips to ensure a smooth start to the first day.

  • This opportunity is for students in grade 9-12 who demonstrate gaps in literacy skills and whose caregivers commit to participating.

  • Participants must have access to a computer device and reliable internet.

  • This program will only run with a minimum of 8 students across the board.
     

Program Timing:

  • August 29 to September 2, 2022 – (9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. each morning)

High School Transition Program
(Virtual Summer Program)

Focus: Grades 9 to 12

UPDATE: Spaces are currently available.

The High School Transition Program is a two-hour (9:30 to 11:30 a.m.) virtual collaborative program (through Microsoft TEAMS) which runs for five consecutive days. This program will increase student confidence and independence with managing workload, staying on top of tasks and becoming more confident readers and writers. Students will explore the technology tools and strategies that are key to a successful high school experience.  They will investigate tools for organization, reading text with meaning, and writing effectively to clearly communicate their understanding and ideas.
 

Program Information:

  • Laptop.pngThis program is delivered by a LEARNStyle coach who will reach out to participants by email prior to the start of the camp for introductions and video conferencing tips to ensure a smooth start to the first day.

  • This opportunity is for students in Grades 9-12 who demonstrate gaps in literacy skills and whose families commit to participating.

  • Participants must have access to a computer device and reliable internet.

  • This program will only run with a minimum of 8 students across the board.
     

Program Timing:

  • August 22 to 26, 2022 – (9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. each morning)

Hello Classroom Program

Focus: Elementary or Secondary Students in Intensive Autism or Life Skills Self-Contained Classrooms

Hello Classroom is a half day (morning) face-to-face program for students in elementary or secondary Intensive Autism or Life Skills self-contained classrooms. This program will provide students with an opportunity to visit their class and participate in transition activities prior to the first day of school.
 

Program Information:

  • Hello-Classroom[46].jpgDelivered by a Teacher and an Educational Assistant, Programs are supervised by a Principal or Vice Principal.

  • This opportunity will benefit students who require direct support and supervision during transitional times and enhanced opportunities to be exposed to school routines

  • The Hello Classroom Program will only run in schools who have volunteer staffing and available space. Caregiver consent must be obtained for a student to participate

  • Schools may choose to include:

    • All students in the class;

    • New students starting in the class in September;

    • A combination of students from the class who may benefit from additional transitional activities, exposure and practice time;

    • Students on a staggered schedule rotating attendance and participation
