The future is here. With meaningful conversations flowing and teamwork at its best, Grade 8 students at Bellview Public School began constructing and applying their knowledge of science, math, and technology with VEX IQ Robotic systems this week.
“Grade 8 students are learning about structures and mechanisms in Science, so when six robotics kits arrived, they were eager to apply what they knew,” said Principal Dennis Wright, of the intuitive, snap-together systems. “The VEX robotic systems are a great introduction to technology and engineering, while also giving students the chance to work together to solve problems in a very tangible way.”
In groups of four, Ms. Papineau’s Grade 8 students handpicked the robot of their choice to construct, and each day they rotate between small-group learning and the construction of their robots.
Healthy competition is being built, too. At the end of the unit, each robot will compete in a mini Olympics in a battle of technological brawn.
Bellview Public School is also thrilled to be offering a VEX Robotics club to all students this term. This club is a fun, hands-on way for students interested in robotics technology to explore, build, and cooperate.
