Staff and students at Echo Place School had the opportunity recently to learn more about First Nations culture, language, and storytelling through a week-long Native Dance workshop presented by Tribal Vision Dance.
With Derek and Naomi Martin of Tribal Vision Dance leading the way, students got up and moving as they learned traditional and contemporary dances. The inspiring week culminated with each class presenting a dance during an assembly for parents and the school community.
“As the week went on, you could see that students’ confidence and enthusiasm was increasing,” said Echo Place School Principal Cheryl Innes. “It truly had a positive impact on the whole school.”
The workshop was made possible through the Aboriginal Artists in Schools program, and was supported by the Ontario Arts Council.
