Camp SAIL has kicked off this month in seven Grand Erie elementary schools.
Students are back in the classroom at King George and Princess Elizabeth Schools in Brantford, Burford District Elementary in Brant County, Delhi Public, Lynndale Heights and Langton Public in Norfolk County and Thompson Creek in Haldimand County.
Camp SAIL provides students with an opportunity to continue their learning during the summer months. Every morning, students focus on literacy and numeracy, while reading and oral communication is built into the afternoon recreation program. The camp is designed to bridge the gap between the end of the school year and the start of a new year and reintroduce students to the daily routine of school.
The YMCA provides activities for the students in the afternoon at Brantford, Burford and Dunnville camps, while Today's Family services the students in Norfolk. Lunch and snacks are provided to each student in the camp, as well as reading books and Camp Sail accessories.
Camp Sail made its debut in Grand Erie in 2010 and has since grown to reach students in many communities across the Board. While most are from Kindergarten to Grade 3, there are some Junior students at certain locations.
