    Kids say the smartest things

January is Kindergarten Registration Month, and in order to help spread the word, Grand Erie District School Board called in the experts. Who better, after all, to explain the many reasons to look forward to September than Grand Erie Kindergarten students themselves?

Three students happily lent their voices to the airwaves and expressed their enthusiasm for learning by recording radio spots letting the public know more about the Kindergarten registration process.

Gabe, who’s in Kindergarten at Centennial-Grand Woodlands School, lent his talents to record a radio ad for CKCP-FM The Jewel

Five-year-old Gabe Shiu, a student at Centennial-Grand Woodlands School, shared his talents with FM 92 The Jewel in Brantford. Gabe's favourite part of Kindergarten? "I like recess because I get to play fun games with my friends," he said.

Tyler, second from right, recorded a radio spot, and got some help from Kindergarten classmates Isla, Mackenzie, and Hayden as they hoisted a MyFM banner at Elgin Ave. PS

Five-year-old Tyler Gingras, a current Kindergarten student at Elgin Ave. Public School in Simcoe, stepped into the studios at MyFM to promote Kindergarten registration. He said that while starting new things can be scary at first, his experience this year has been “awesome.”

“The best part is that we get to play and eat snacks,” Gingras said. “And I really like working on puzzles.”

Lucy, a Kindergarten student at Caledonia Centennial PS visited the studios at 92.9 FM The Grand to record her ad

Over in Caledonia, Lucy Robitaille, a Kindergarten student at Caledonia Centennial Public School, confidently got behind the microphone at 92.2 The Grand to relay the message about registration. She likes to balance outdoor activity with artistic endeavours in the classroom: “My favourite is working on art, especially drawing,” she said. “I also like playing outside and making snow angels.”

The Kindergarten program is designed to provide the very best learning, while also giving each student the chance to learn in the ways best suited to them.

Another great thing about Kindergarten? “It’s really fun, and you get your own locker,” Gingras added. “There are plenty of kids, but there are plenty of lockers!”
