In the annual Waterford Pumpkinfest Parade on Saturday, October 15, 2016, Boston Public School won the prize for “Best School Float”.
Students and parents showed their school spirit at the autumn festival, where local schools are invited to participate in a number of events that take place over the weekend. This year, Boston’s winning parade entry was organized by the school council as an opportunity for parents to engage with the school.
“As part of this year’s strategy for parent engagement, we thought it would great to kick things off by welcoming parents to join their kids in cheering for their school,” said Karen Baldwin, school council member and float organizer.
Staff and parent volunteers got together on the Friday evening to construct the float and then again on Saturday morning for the main event.
“We had a great turnout, and fantastic weather for the parade,” said Cam MacDonald, Boston’s Principal. “I think the kids were thrilled to be on a parade float, and for those of us walking behind, we sure racked up our steps for the week.”
Boston School Council would like to thank the families for joining in the fun that day.
