The Kindergarten students at Lansdowne-Costain are working hard to take care of the Earth.
After finding garbage on the school yard during a nature walk earlier this year, the Kindergartens have been very passionate about pitching in to help the environment. The garbage discovery prompted the Kindergartens to set up a recycling centre in the classroom.
They watched videos and listened to read-alouds about recycling and once they were experts at recycling themselves they decided to help the rest of the school. The Kindergartens prepared and made a presentation to the rest of the school to teach them how to sort their recycling in the classroom.
Each Wednesday morning, after the announcements, the Recycling Ninjas (as they call themselves due to their stealthy collections methods) head out into the school in partners to collect all of the recycling bins in the school.
They love to help out and the other students in the school are very supportive of the Ninjas and their efforts to take care of the Earth. The Recycling Ninjas have also started a vermicompost in the classroom and are promoting the school’s participation in Lights Out Canada, a climate change awareness initiative.
