One hundred and seventy five years in and the Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show continues to promote community pride and vision in its many competitions.
It is Ontario's oldest agricultural fair and relies heavily on its many volunteers and sponsors. Read Your Way to the Fair is a reading contest between schools in Norfolk County. Students track their reading, and top schools win prizes of up to $1000. This year, Waterford Public School won $500 to buy new books for the library. Thanks to Ontario Power Generation, a local sponsor, for funding this event and promoting the love of reading in our students.
“The students of Waterford Public School worked hard to earn this prize so the books reflect books they love to read,” commented teacher librarian Petra Van Den Hurk.
The new Guinness World Records 2016, Haunted Canada, Minecraft, Spirit Animals, I Survived, Otis, Big NATE, Maze Runner, Magnus Chase, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Thea Stilton, and more will complement the many genres and titles available to engage the students in reading and as part of a book exchange offered daily.
