All Grand Erie secondary schools now promote Fair Play to reinforce respectable sportsmanship amongst athletes, spectators, referees and coaches and to ensure that the players can enjoy a positive experience.
Fair Play is a universally understood concept that all athletes and spectators should follow. Incorporating Fair Play into a facility ensures that there is a safe environment for students to excel during their extra-curricular activities. It also emphasizes the importance of respect, friendship, team spirit, fair competition, equality and excellence; all values that students can benefit from in everyday life.
“It is important for children to be in a safe environment when participating in extra-curricular activities,” said Jean Montgomery, a member of Norfolk Youth Basketball Association, “Incorporating Fair Play into all secondary school facilities in the Grand Erie District School Board is ensuring that students are not only being respectful but being respected.”
