Vicki Martin and Sonia Biehn are recipients of this year’s Frances Pleschuk Award.
The pair work as the educator team in the Kindergarten room at Langton Public School. They have been working with young learners together for the past six years, making a powerful impact on the students they teach.
“Both of these ladies have made a commitment to not only the program but to making sure the partnership model of teacher and Designated Early Childhood Educator is one of cooperation and collaboration,” said Jennifer MacDonald, Early Years Consultant.
“They share professional reading, take their professional development very seriously and share the responsibilities and celebrations of the children’s progress.”
The Frances Pleschuk Award recognizes educators or educator teams in Ontario who have made an exemplary contribution to the education of young children.
Beyond the dynamic learning that this team has brought to their own classroom and school, their years of experience working together has naturally led them to sharing their findings and documentation with other schools.
Both Sonia and Vicki have opened their doors to other educators within the school board. They frequently have visitors to their room, generously giving their own free time to talk with other educators about the program.
“We feel very honoured to have been recognized and receive this award,” said Sonia Biehn. “The last six years have been a journey for us, allowing us to explore pedagogical documentation, classroom environment, inquiry and play based learning. We look forward to continuing our journey in the years to come.”
