Brantford North (Banbury Heights, Branlyn, Brier Park, Cedarland, Centennial, Greenbrier, Coronation and Russell Reid public schools) Accommodation Review Committee

UPDATE NOVEMBER 23, 2009

The Grand Erie District Board approved the following recommendations during its November 23, 2009 Board meeting:

That the Grand Erie District School Board close Coronation Public School, effective June 30, 2011, and that students within the Coronation Public School boundary attend Russell Reid School commencing September 2011;

That the Grand Erie District School Board create a JK to grade 8 school at Russell Reid Public School commencing September 2011; and

That school organizations at Banbury Heights, Branlyn, Brier Park, Cedarland, Centennial-Grand Woodlands, and Greenbrier Public Schools remain status quo.

UPDATE JUNE 22, 2009

The Grand Erie District School Board received the recommendations of the Brantford North ARC and the Administrative Report at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday June 8, 2009.

As per Board policy FT5, "The ARC's school valuation findings and recommendations and the recommendations of the administration will be presented to Committee of the Whole Board. The Committee of the Whole Board will make a recommendation to a Board meeting no earlier than 60 days from the date of Committee of the Whole meeting."

The recommended action passed was: "That the recommendations in Brantford North Accommodation Review - Administrative Review be placed on the November 9, 2009 agenda of the Committee of the Whole #2 meeting for consideration.

The Accommodation Review Committee is making the following recommendations to the Board's senior administration:

That the Grand Erie District School Board consider the following recommendations:

1. That Coronation Public School and Russell Reid Public School be combined into a JK-8 school effective September 1, 2011 and that Coronation Public School be closed effective June 30, 2011.

2. That Banbury Heights, Branlyn, Brier Park, Cedarland, Centennial-Grand Woodlands, and Greenbrier Public Schools remain status quo.

3. Incorporating the Robotics Lab into the design of the new addition/renovation at Russell Reid.

4. Maintaining the special education class at Russell Reid.

5. Relocating the specialty equipment, including the science equipment, from Coronation to Russell Reid.

6. That an expanded library/computer lab and an expanded gymnasium be built to meet the accommodation of the school.

7. That the formal parking, drop off and fenced areas at Russell Reid be designated in conjunction with the City of Brantford.

8. That washroom, kitchen and facilities at Russell Reid be renovated to meet. the needs of the school and the addition of change rooms be investigated.

9. That the three administrative recommendations:
- assign a small section of students to Centennial-Grand Woodlands from Brier Park's area
- assign a rural section of Greenbrier students to Branlyn; and
- assign a rural section of Greenbrier students to Russell Reid-Coronation be removed .

10. That wireless technology be incorporated in the renovations of Russell Reid Public School.
