Supporting Learning in Second Semester

FRIDAY, FEB. 4, 2022

Grand Erie secondary schools are introducing Student Learning Support Days in second semester, providing additional opportunities for students requiring further consolidation of learning to take part in order to meet their achievement goals.

“These days will present a valuable opportunity to enhance learning and provide the specialized support some students in grades 9 to 12 will require this year,” said Kevin Graham, Superintendent of Education overseeing secondary schools. “Depending on individual student progress, these support days will include planned opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning, or recover credits that might be incomplete from quadmesters 1 or 2.”

SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION
GRAND ERIE DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

There will be five Student Learning Support Days in second semester (two days mid-semester: May 12 and May 13, and three at the end of the semester: June 27, 28, 29). All Student Learning Support Days will be delivered in a face-to-face format unless directed otherwise by the Ministry of Education or local public health units. Bussing will be provided on these days. Students will be invited by their teacher to attend on these days. If a student who wishes to participate does not receive an invitation, they are asked to contact their teacher directly.

Depending on individual student progress, these support days could include planned opportunities such as:

  • Additional opportunity to gather evidence of student learning with course material covered to date (e.g., conversations through student-teacher conferences)
  • Opportunities to submit/complete work already assigned. (No new assessments will be administered)
  • Additional support for students who have one or more incomplete credits from quadmester 1 or 2
  • Credit recovery/credit rescue planning for current courses

Student Learning Support Days are grounded in Grand Erie’s multi-year strategic plan, which includes collective priorities to build a culture of learning in order to nurture curiosity and opportunity for each learner.
