Grand Erie Announces Secondary Learning Model for 2021-22

Secondary students at Grand Erie District School Board will return to school to a quadmester learning model in September 2021. The revised model will allow students to attend classes in person every day for the 2021-22 academic year.

As part of the 2021-22 quadmester model, Grand Erie students will now be able to take two courses each day rather than the one course model required for this current school year. One course will be offered in the morning for 150 minutes, followed by a lunch break, and then the second course will also be 150 minutes in the afternoon.

All school boards across Ontario have been directed by the Ministry of Education to adopt secondary timetabling methods that emphasize cohorting of students as much as possible and to limit the number of student-to student contacts for the upcoming school year. This model helps reduce potential contact between students and supports health and safety protocols.

Students, families and staff can also expect the following:

  • Timetabling methods will support cohorts if needed and to limit student contacts.
  • School bell times and transportation services will remain the same.
  • Online learning will continue to be offered as mandated by the Ministry of Education.

Plans are in progress to support students who expressed an interest in enrolling in online learning for September 2021.

The Ministry of Education will be informing all school boards over the summer about the public health safety measures for return to class, including masking requirements and physical distancing.

Grand Erie encourages all staff and eligible students between the ages of 12 and 17 to receive their COVID-19 vaccination over the summer as an added measure of protection for the return to school in the fall. Those eligible can book their appointment through the provincial booking system (link here).
