Grand Erie Schools Remain Closed to In-Person Learning for the Remainder of the 2020-21 School Year

On June 2, the Province of Ontario has announced that students will continue to learn remotely

Today on June 2, the Province of Ontario has announced that all schools in Ontario remain closed to in-person learning for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. This means that all Grand Erie District School Board students will continue to learn remotely until the end of the school year. The Virtual Learning Academy classes will continue until the end of June.

“The number one priority for the Grand Erie District School Board remains the health, safety and well-being of our students, families and staff,” said JoAnna Roberto, Director of Education. “We recognize that it has been a challenging year for all of us, particularly our students, staff and families. We look forward to continuing our plans for the 2021-22 school year, and for a chance to reconnect and engage in September.”

Due to the recent announcement, the following updates are as follows:

  • Students with special education needs will continue to learn either in-person or remotely based on the model in which they are currently participating;
  • Summer Learning offerings are underway. At this moment, summer learning programs will be offered in both remote and face-to-face learning models. Families will be notified of any changes as we continue to receive direction from the Province of Ontario and Public Health Units;
  • Emergency childcare will continue for families; and
  • Additional information with respect to graduations will be shared at a later date.

We will continue our efforts to keep our school communities informed of the latest updates.
