COVID-19 Vaccines Expanding to Additional Grand Erie Staff

Grand Erie District School Board is pleased to share news that the Brant County Health Unit, based on the Ministry of Health guidelines, will expand access to the COVID-19 vaccine for additional Grand Erie staff beginning on April 26.

For this round of vaccinations, the following staff meet the eligibility criteria: all active full-time, permanent and long-term occasional (who are currently in a long-term assignment position) school-based staff. Staff who work for the Grand Erie District School Board Education Centre at the 349 Erie Avenue location in Brantford and support centres, would also be eligible.

Please note any Grand Erie staff member, listed above, is eligible for the vaccine, no matter where they live or work. For example, if a teacher resides within the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit’s jurisdiction and works at a Haldimand County or Norfolk County school, they are eligible to receive a vaccine at a Brant County Health Unit clinic.

Eligible staff can schedule a vaccine time slot with the Brant County Health Unit. The vaccination is voluntary and offered at no cost to staff.

At this time, casual and occasional staff are not yet eligible. Grand Erie continues its discussions with its health unit to expand the eligibility criteria to casual and occasional staff.

“We are thrilled that the Brant County Health Unit can now offer COVID-19 vaccines to additional Grand Erie school staff,” said JoAnna Roberto, Director of Education at the Grand Erie District School Board. “Our staff have worked hard throughout the pandemic to keep students and their colleagues safe and healthy, and now they will have access to this additional layer of safety and protection. We will continue to work with our health units and thank them for their continued collaboration to keep Grand Erie students and staff safe.”

Specific details will be provided to these school staff now eligible for the vaccine. At the time of registration, staff will need to complete a COVID-19 screening and consent form. Staff should remember to wear a mask and bring their Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card to their appointment.

Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 18,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 7,700 students in 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the Counties of Brant, Haldimand, and Norfolk as well as secondary students from Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
