Bus Driver Shortages Continue to Impact Local Elementary and Secondary Students in Haldimand County

Student Transportation Services Brant Haldimand Norfolk (STSBHN) has made strides in reducing the impact of bus driver shortages affecting routes throughout the City of Brantford and counties of Brant and Haldimand, however, STSBHN is still working to ensure all routes are removed from rotating cancellations.

“We’ve been able to reduce the number of daily cancellations from 34 routes to approximately 10,” said Phil Kuckyt, Manager of Transportation Services for STSBHN, a consortium providing transportation to elementary and secondary students at three local school boards – Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board, Grand Erie District School Board and Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir. “We’ve successfully removed all Brant and Brantford-area routes from the rotating cancellations, but we’re still experiencing driver shortages in Haldimand County, which we are working to address.”

In past years, STSBHN has been able to escape bus driver shortages that have rippled across the province, however, with the impacts of COVID-19, the consortium has had to mitigate the ongoing challenges with rolling two-day route cancellations, shared with families in advance.

“Unfortunately, over the next few weeks, families will continue to experience service disruptions with route cancellations in parts of Haldimand County,” said Kuckyt. “We deeply regret the impact this will have on our students and their families. We continue to do everything we can to limit the inconveniences as we work to resolve our staffing issues.”

Route cancellations will impact a number of local schools including:

  • Caledonia Centennial Public School
  • Cayuga Secondary School
  • J.L. Mitchener Public School
  • McKinnon Park Secondary School
  • Notre Dame School
  • River Heights School,
  • Seneca Central Public School
  • St. Stephen’s School

Impacted families will be contacted by their individual schools with more information. For questions related to the rotating cancellations, please contact STSBHN directly by calling 519-751-7532 or emailing transportation@stsbhn.ca.
