Grand Erie’s Declaration for Online Learning for the 2021-22 School Year

Online Declaration Forms are due June 1st

Today, the Grand Erie District School Board provided an update to families regarding the 2021-22 school year. Grand Erie is planning to close the Grades K-12 Virtual Learning Academy at the end of June 2021 as the board looks forward to in-person learning, it will also be offering an online option. Grand Erie made this decision after receiving input from the school community that included a consultation with families through a recent survey.

This fall, we will be ready to welcome students back into their classrooms with their teachers and peers, supporting academics, social, emotional, and the physical well-being of each learner. Grand Erie will continue to follow the health and safety precautions currently in place for the 2021-22 school year.

Parents of students in Grades K-12 who choose to register their child(ren) in online learning will be asked to make a one-time declaration for the entire 2021-22 school year. To support an online learning option for families, Grand Erie will establish online learning hubs for Grades K-8 students throughout the school district. Teachers will teach their online classes from their designated school, students will be registered with that school, and special education, mental health and wellbeing and principal support will be available. Select online course options for Grades 9 through 12 may be made available.

The hybrid model for self-contained students that is currently being used for online learning will continue in the 2021-22 school year.

In order to enroll their child(ren) in the online learning program for Grades K-12, parents must submit a one-time declaration by June 1, 2021. Only families requesting online learning will be required to complete the survey. Families who do not wish to enrol their child for online learning do not have to
submit the online declaration.
