“On February 1, 2026, the Spec.com published a story by Celeste Percey-Beauregard about an application for judicial review which was heard on January 30, 2026.
The article is titled, "Grand Erie school board says its own misstep voids Sloat case."
The statement is false and a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue before the Court. Trustee Sloat’s application was dismissed by the Court.
The public needs to know that the Board never took Trustee Sloat to court.
Trustee Sloat took the Board to court resulting in costs each time.
The Board decided in this matter that the in-camera discussion would not be put into effect and sanctions were not implemented.
Trustees know there is no decision until the Board passes a public resolution.
The in-camera meeting discussions became public after Trustee Sloat filed her application for judicial review.
The Board had to appear in court to defend its processes after it was unable to settle the litigations.
The opinions expressed in-camera were not addressed by the Court because Trustee Sloat’s application was dismissed.
The Board continues to move forward and remains focused on students, staff and the learning agenda and requires all its members to follow the expectations for Trustees under the Code of Conduct.
The Board will not make any further comment at this time."
