All around Thompson Creek Elementary School, students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into CLEAN FUEL! This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!

Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house -- even non-Crayola brands. A black drop-off box is located near the office for your child to deposit the markers.

Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents and guardians like you across the country, the Crayola ColourCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.

Remember, don't throw out that used marker -- ColourCycle it!

This week, a very exciting event is running. In the library side room, the book fair is open. Ending after parent-teacher interviews, the book fair has been open since Monday. As we near the close of the event, parents and students are reminded that tomorrow is the last school day to get these fantastic reads! With prices ranging from $2.50 to $30, the books are meticulously managed and organized by a small group of teens (Erica Englert, Hailey Hines, Olivia Jones, Eva McLeod, and Hailey and Elliot Montgomery) and Mr. Taylor and Mrs. Duliban-Gee!

The book fair will be open for primary grades at first break and the junior and intermediate grades at second. Along with books, there are various other items: pens, posters, erasers, and other little fun knick-knacks! The most popular book so far is "All About Rocks" for $15. Check out all the other fabulous books. Students and parents are welcome to come browse and buy anything that catches their fancy! Be sure to come at your grade's time slot, and parents are welcome to check it out tomorrow night before or after interview times!

A joint effort last October brought about some exciting new additions to the school grounds here at Thompson Creek! As many students have noticed, there now are five trees planted in the back field! They were donated by Grand Erie Home Hardware, with the support of Trees Canada, and some help from Thompson Creek School itself. The trees were planted with the goal in mind to beautify school surroundings - improving morale, supplying more shaded area, and potentially even outdoor teaching spaces! The hope is to continue enriching school spaces with the trees, and spread the fresh air! Remember to stay off the trees, to prevent harming them or breaking them before they can grow! We look forward to seeing them progress to full maturity throughout the years! By Brooklynn Crechiola, Grade 8 student

Every Friday in Mrs. Silverthorne's room, the students get to "Be the Teacher"! This means that students get to choose something to teach the class - it can be art, dancing, what it would be like to be deaf, anything they want. They organize it, and teach the class! This teaches the students to organize their ideas, coordinate with other people (let the teacher know what materials they need, etc.), and teach other people in a way that is easy to understand and follow. Last Friday, Teagan Birdsell decided to teach the class to paint Minions!

A fun activity run by Mrs. Kruis-Daly has started up just recently. Almost every year, she runs the Sew Cool Club - a sewing club for Grades 4.5.& 6, and then, separately, Grades 7 & 8! This activity teaches kids how to sew, and all of the related skills: working with irons, scissors, and using a sewing machine safely and efficiently. Kids get the opportunity to create their own blankets, pillows - stuffed animals, even! It's a hands-on learning experience that helps develop sewing skills.
