SCS Eco-Club – “The Bid Herd”

SCS has resurrected the Eco-Club.This group of students have a goal to create awareness of environmental issues, such as protection, conservation, preservation, and restoration, with an emphasis on educating and empowering students.

The groups first initiative was the installation of duck nesting structures (Mallard Hen Houses) which were donated by Delta Waterfowl.Taking advantage of Simcoe Composite’s unique location on the Lynn river, students installed four of these structures. In partnership with the Special Education program at the school, students will monitor the nests for hatch success rates as part of a “citizen science” program.

The school’s construction class is building wood duck nest boxes, which will also be installed before the spring nesting season.

Students who are interested in environmental advocacy and awareness are encouraged to join. For more information, contact Ms. Nix or Mr. Smith.
