While the grade 10’s were busy completing their EQAO test, some of our grade 9 students were busy playing video games to learn more about science. Mr. Lamers set up the lab and Mrs. Amy along with her student teacher Ms. Maier, had their students work through a comparison of materials and compounds in the Minecraft EDU World.

Students discovered which elements on the periodic table were used in materials in the virtual space and then compared their findings to real world applications. Although most of their findings suggested that Minecraft EDU does have some limitations when creating valid scientific research, they did develop a better understanding of how to apply the elements on the periodic table in their work.
