Grade 9 Geography Students Invited to Work on the Development of Jay Wells Park

Ms. Bales and Mr. Gray’s Grade 9 Geography students are involved in a community park project where students are engaged in the planning of a community park and ensuring that they too have a voice in the future development of municipal services.

PDHS started the program on November 5th, 2018. The County of Brant worked with Grade 9 Geography classes to get youth more involved in their community. As part of the program, content experts from across various recreational organizations engaged students on issues related to their Livable Communities curriculum which includes the Geography classes.

The first pilot project starts with our own with PDHS students sharing their ideas on the future development of Jay Wells park in Paris. In addition to the County of Brant staff, Community Services will provide guest speakers to present various concepts, expertise, and ideas to help students with their ideas; this will include staff from various divisions. At the end of the activity, students will be asked to present their concept ideas to the County of Brant staff who will take them to the Paris Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee.
