Technology and Trades in Grand Erie Get a Big Boost Thanks to Stelco Inc. Donation

The welding programs at four Grand Erie secondary schools are receiving equipment upgrades thanks to a significant donation from Stelco Inc. through the CWB Welding Foundation, announced Wednesday, April 11, as part of a cheque presentation.

“Stelco’s investment through the CWB Welding Foundation will provide Grand Erie students with new welding equipment and supplies, improving their experiential learning and overall education,” said Brenda Blancher, Director of Education for Grand Erie District School Board. “We’re grateful to Stelco for investing in the industry’s future leaders, and for helping Grand Erie achieve success for every student.”

Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School, Cayuga Secondary School, Pauline Johnson Collegiate and Vocational School, and Waterford District High School, along with Assumption College School, will all benefit from the $182,000 donation.

"Stelco is proud to be improving educational outcomes for the next generation of skilled trades people in the welding industry. Through this contribution, more students will have access to improved equipment and have greater opportunity to explore the potential of a future career in the skilled trades," said Jack DiCosimo, Vice President, Operations, Stelco.

Technology is a pillar in Grand Erie’s current Multi-Year Plan, striving to provide up-to-date technology infrastructure that meets the needs of a quickly evolving world. Partnerships such as this go far in reaching those goals, and provide the next generation of skilled trades workers with the hands-on knowledge and experience necessary for success.

Stelco will also be the national steel sponsor for all of the CWB Welding Foundation’s Mind over Metal camps across Canada for at-risk youth ages 12-15. The CWB Welding Foundation is anticipating 100 camps this year across Canada.

Blood, Sweat & Cheers!

Port Dover Health & Fitness Centre & Port Dover Chiropractic Centre hosted the third annual community fundraiser "Blood Sweat & Cheers Port Dover" on Saturday, June 17, 2017! This 5 km obstacle fun run resulted in all proceeds donated to Lakewood Elementary and St. Cecilia's for outdoor recreational equipment and refurbishments to the Todd Eaton Memorial track. Lakewood Elementary School staff, parents and students are truly grateful for this support. Thank YOU!

Running Club - Wednesdays 3:15 to 4:15pm

Our focus will be track training for sprints and long distance.

Students should have proper footwear - running shoes not board shoes. A light jacket or sweater is often needed and track pants, capris or soccer style shorts.

The Running Club maintains a supportive, non-competitive atmosphere which allows all levels of runners to develop their running.
