International Languages Elementary Program

 

Program Information

 

  • Offers children the opportunity to develop and/or maintain the ability to speak, listen, read and write a new language, or in the language of their heritage.
  • Enhances students’ connection with their heritage.
  • Improves communication skills in their language of choice.
  • Strengthens cognitive development through the knowledge of an additional language.
  • Provides opportunities to learn and experience another culture.
  • Languages offered: Arabic, Mandarin, Polish, Punjabi, and Urdu.

 

 

Important Notes

 

  • An elementary language program for students entering JK through Grade 8 in September 2016.
  • Students with all levels of language proficiency are welcome.
  • Offered free of charge to Ontario residents.
  • Students need to be committed to learning and improving their skills. Good attitude, behaviour and attendance are expected of every student.

Arabic Language (first class September 11, 2016)

Sundays 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Mondays 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Thursdays 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Course Cancellation Policy - Courses listed will be offered provided there are sufficient registrants and/or qualified instructors available. That is, some of these languages MAY NOT be offered, depending on final registration numbers.​

 

 

2016-2017 School Year Registration Procedure

 

All classes for the 2016-2017 school year are offered subject to sufficient enrolment. Elementary students may start at any point throughout the school year. Students must be 4 years of age by December 31, 2016 to be eligible.

 

 

To Register please provide:

Along with:

Proof of Birth and Citizenship - one of the following:

  • a Canadian Birth Certificate or Baptismal Certificate
  • a Canadian Passport (not a Canada Visa within a passport)
  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • Confirmation of Permanent Residence Form 5292 or IMM100 (verified with a passport)
  • Permanent Resident Card

 

Registration forms with proof of citizenship will be accepted at Grand Erie Learning Alternatives, 365 Rawdon Street, Brantford, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or, at the location of the desired language of instruction on a date the class is running.

​Christina Cowell from the YMCA "Youth Gambling Awareness Program" will be at GELA Rawdon on Monday to visit with students and raise awareness to the issue of gambling and how individual's can better make informed decisions on the issue.
