Each student in the school has been divided into one of six colour houses: Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, and Yellow! If you are unsure of your child's colour house, just ask your child's teacher. Our teams take part in colour house activities once a month to earn colour house points and boost school spirit.
This year our spirit days will be chosen by the Spirit Squad, a team of students in grades 6-8 students interested in promoting school spirit.
We have met and decided spirit days- watch here for upcoming events.
22nd P.J. Day
Bloomsburg worked hard in the 2016-17, and our efforts paid off! We are now officially an Ontario Eco School at the silver level. This year, we go for gold! Here are a few of the things we have going on:
Recycling: this year each class is responsible for doing its own recycling at the end of 2nd nutrition break. Plastic should be well rinsed, and lids peeled off. Wrappers need to go in the garbage, please! Don't forget, Ziploc bags are recyclable.
Paper Recycling: Outside of the school is our Abitibi bin. All of our paper products from the classroom (and community, so feel free to drop off you household paper) are recycled there. GOOSe bins are also in each room for good on one side only paper.
Campbell's Soup Labels: Along the lines, the school also collects the labels from Campbell's soup cans and colour house points are awarded per label. Please make sure to include your child's colour house and number of labels on the bag.
Crayola Marker Recycling: Bloomsburg has signed up to be part of a program that recycles dry markers of any type. Feel free to send in any you have at home, and we will keep an eye on the markers here as they dry out.
Composting: In the 2017-18 school year, each classroom will be responsible for collecting compostable items (fruit and veggie scraps, grain products without oils, paper items) each nutrition break, and one volunteer will empty the containers daily into the wonderful bins given to us by the Waterford Tech class.
Battery Recycling: We are involved in a program that sends in dead batteries to be safely disposed of and reclaim the minerals. Eco club will be in charge of this program.
Earth Hour and Earth Day: Bloomsburg's student council will be planning fun filled ways for our school to take part in these events.
Ban the Bottle: One goal for the new year is to eliminate the presence of single use water bottles in our school. Each child will be allowed a refillable water bottle which may be filled at the wonderful new water bottle refilling station that we won for becoming an Eco School. Each child now has their very own Bloomburg bottle, to be left at school.
