Grand Erie students and staff continue to donate in support of Haiti
Grand Erie schools have responded to the tragic earthquake in Haiti by donating to help the victims. These Oakland-Scotland Public School students initiated a Hearts for Haiti campaign at their school. Students and staff collected more than 1,200 bars of soap, boxes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs and bandage boxes to send to support survivors in Haiti. Schools have raised more than $34,000 so far, with more donations coming in from Grand Erie students and staff.

Major Ballachey students demonstrate creativity on Apple laptops
Grade 7 students at the Rawdon Street school thoroughly embraced the opportunity to use some of the newest Apple laptops to create podcasts which they will share at a later date with Nipissing University students.

Bellview selected for playground project
Parent input is required, as Bellview Public School has been selected to receive $9,000 from the Brantford Earth Week Committee for playground enhancements.

Elementary Students write to make a difference in Africa
Teachers and classrooms throughout the Grand Erie District School Board are signing up to help kids throughout Africa by writing and publishing books. These students are from from a small village in the Masai Mara in Kenya. The donations from the books will be going towards children in Kenya and Uganda, to help support a feeding program as well as teacher's salaries.

Students and staff at Thompson Creek Elementary School had great weather and enthusiasm for their sixth year participating in the Canada-wide Terry Fox School Run.

SCS teachers accept challenge for good cause
On Sunday October 4, the CIBC RUN for the CURE was held in Simcoe. The students, staff and school community of Simcoe Composite School were challenged by three members of the SCS staff to participate and contribute to the cause against breast cancer.

Agnes Hodge and five other schools going green
The Board has launched a pilot blue box recycling program that will be expanded to all city public schools by year's end. The program will eventually be expanded to all schools across the system.

Archives search now available online
The Grand Erie District School Board, in partnership with the co-terminus separate board, houses these items in three Archives Room, located at Waterford District High School. The Archives are run by two dedicated volunteers, Dan Walker and Bob Stevenson, and an Archives Committee meets throughout the year to provide input and guidance.

Thompson Creek staff and students participate in fundraiser
Students and staff at Thompson Creek Elementary School had great weather and enthusiasm for their sixth year participating in the Canada-wide Terry Fox School Run. All participated in decorating the Dunnville school with the colourful message "LET'S BEAT CANCER AT THE CREEK!"
